Behavior Modification

Behaviour Modification Therapy

In today’s world, it is a time of considerable change during which children are required to navigate a variety of developmental obstacles. Various emotional difficulties such as stress, anxiety or depression may arise during this period due to any number of stressful circumstances: the demand of study, performance expectations, peer pressure or family conflict. Individuals who cope best with this period are those with the skills to deal with their emotions, deal with other people, generate solutions to problems they experience, and feel good about themselves.

What are my tasks to help you ?

Recognition of existing strengths

Promoting self-management stress

Cognitive restructuring

Creating a personal problem solving model

Considering the other's perspective

Keeping and making the peace

Building psychological support networks

Behaviour Modification Therapy incorporates Cognitive Behaviour Components (CBT), Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT), and Kohut’s Self Psychology theories that work together to increase coping abilities.

The recognition and affirmation of existing strengths and resources

Individuals are helped to recognise and reinforce their existing strengths and personal resources. The aim is to focus on the importance of developing and maintaining good self-esteem.

Promoting self-management and self-regulation skills in the face of stress

Individuals are taught to keep calm using self-management and self-regulation strategies which involves learning to recognise physical symptoms, such as butterflies in the stomach or tense muscles, and how to manage these through relaxation techniques, humour, and other stress reduction techniques.

Cognitive restructuring
Individuals are helped to recognise and challenge negative or distorted thinking and to develop self-talk.

Creating a personal problem solving model

Individuals are encouraged to define their problems, consider solutions to the problems, and use step by step approaches un carrying out and evaluating the solution.

Building and accessing psychological support networks

Individuals are helped to acknowledge the importance of developing a support network and are encouraged to seek help, when necessary, to maintain their emotional well-being.

Considering the other’s perspective

Individuals are helped to consider how growing older and more responsible can lead to disputes with peers and adults during certain periods of their lives. Strategies for promoting and avoiding escalation of conflict are considered.

Keeping and making the peace

Individuals are helped to examine the values of empathy in
keeping peace. They are encouraged to understand the getting along with people is easier if we can acknowledge and see things from the other’s perspective.
